TERROIR
The Champagne terroir stands out due to its unique geographical location and climate, which enhance the distinctiveness of its grapes as well as the sought-after qualities of freshness and finesse in Champagne.
Champagne experiences a harsh climate for viticulture, marked by a dual climatic influence: oceanic and continental. This results in occasional severe and destructive frosts in winter, limited sunlight, but relatively warm summers.
Another key characteristic of Champagne is its predominantly chalky subsoil.
The chalk provides excellent soil drainage and acts as a reservoir for underground water, creating ideal conditions for the vines and grape maturation.
This combination of factors, unique in the world, gives Champagne its exceptional finesse, contributing to its renowned reputation.
